Back-to-Back for the 24: William Byron Survives the Smoke to Win the 67th Daytona 500
The 2025 Daytona 500 will be remembered as a race of patience, weather-watching, and a finish that defined ” Hendrick Horsepower.” After a significant delay due to Florida rain, the field finally took the green flag under the lights, creating a high-speed spectacle that kept fans on the edge of their seats for over three hours.

The Race Flow The early stages were dominated by the Ford camp. Team Penske showed incredible synergy, with Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney controlling the draft for much of the first two stages. However, as the sun went down and the track temperature dropped, the handling became treacherous. Several contenders, including Kyle Busch and Ross Chastain, struggled with “loose” cars in the corners, leading to a series of yellow flags that kept the field bunched tight.
The Finish The race headed into a green-white-checkered overtime finish after a late-race spin by Denny Hamlin. On the final restart, William Byron lined up on the second row. As the white flag waved, a “Big One” erupted in the tri-oval, involving nearly a dozen cars. While the chaos unfolded in his rearview mirror, Byron kept his No. 24 Chevrolet pinned to the yellow line.
He crossed the finish line just as the caution lights illuminated, securing his second consecutive Harley J. Earl trophy. By doing so, Byron became the first driver since 2020 to defend his Daytona title, further cementing the legacy of the iconic No. 24 car at the World Center of Racing.
